Hello everyone,

Just to let you know I have updated the sharing assembly tab on the blog.

Throughout the year the children, in their friendship groups, will share some of their learning. Please see the updated sharing assembly tab to see which dates the children will be sharing. Parents/guardians are welcome to come and watch this assembly to celebrate the children's learning.

Good afternoon, we have had another very busy productive week in Year 2 and the time has flown by!

 

The children enjoyed performing to the school their 'La Bamba' dance and showed their very decorative Gaudi sun mosaics also a big well done to Joseph who counted to ten in Spanish to the whole school.


In English the children enjoyed performing Rapunzel and created detailed sentences including conjunctions and adjectives.

Next week, the children will write their own version of Rapunzel. The children will change the characters and setting along with including conjunctions and adjectives in their story.

 

In maths, the children explored number facts regrouping to ten using a variety of equipment.

Next week, the children will apply the strategies learnt to solve sums also they will explore odd and even numbers.

Science

The children will find out and experiment on how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

Art

The children will explore shading using different sketching pencils.

 PSHE

The focus will be to work well and help others cooperatively.

History

The children will write up all the interesting facts which Mr Berridge discussed with the children last week on how the school looked like in the past and how the layout of the school has changed.

 

Spellings for next Friday are:

 Group 1: of, it, was, you.

Group 2: poor, floor, door, fine, mind, behind.

Group 3: because, after, when, that.

 Good afternoon to all,

 We have had another action-packed week with lots of fun activities.

 In English the children enjoyed using their imagination creating their own list poem of  ‘Ten things found in a Giant’s pocket’.

Next week, we will start our topic on Traditional Tales. The children will compare the story of Rapunzel the original and modern version and make inferences.

 In maths the children used a variety of resources and methods to solve sums on regrouping and counting on and back through 10.

Next week, the children will use 10 for adding 3 single digit numbers and will apply last week’s strategies learnt along with exploring odd and even numbers.

The children will find out and experiment on how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

 

History

Mr Berridge who attended Little Heath School will visit the class and talk about the history of the school.

 

Art

The children will create a sun mosaic plate for our class display on the artist Gaudi.

 

RE

The children will explore the Christian religious symbols.

 

Spellings for next Friday are:

Group 1 : said, in, he, I.

Group 2 : hear, here, by, bye, whole, hole.

Group 3 : allowed, aloud, boy, buoy.

 

Reminder

Friday the children will have their individual photographs taken. It is also our Spanish day, the children will have fun learning a Spanish dance and they will perform their dance to the school. (If your child has any Spanish clothes they would like to wear, please bring them in a bag to change into after the photograph).

 Please see below the 'Meet the Teacher' power point from Wednesday, please do not let your children know they will be having a phonics assessment/test as I complete them in a lesson so they are unaware it's an assessment  (apologies it would only copy back to front).

Hello, we have had a fun and busy week. The children are settling very well into their new routine.

 Please see below the scary, huge snake with large sharp teeth the children found in the playground as promised.



 

In English, the children worked hard and created their own Autumn list poem.

Next week, the children will learn the poem ‘Ten things found in a Wizard’s pocket’ and create their own list poem.

 

In maths, the children re-visited number bonds to 10 and 20.

Next week, we will regroup to 20 learning place value using a variety of methods and resources.

We will identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials by exploring the purposes of different objects.

RE

The children learnt about Diwali, the festival of light and why light is an important symbol.

Next week, the children will research why trees and water are an important Hindu symbol.

 History

We will continue to learn what schooling was like when Little Heath school would have been built over 100 years ago.

 ICT

The children will develop their familiarity of the keyboard.

 

Spelling test will be on Friday mornings, the children can choose their group along with learning both groups if they want to.

 Group 1 – the, and, a, to.

Group 2 – sea, see, blue, blew, be, bee.

Group 3 - flour, flower, bear, bare.

 

Today the children have chosen their library book for the week, please can the children bring the book back by Thursday so it can changed on Friday.

 

Please could the children bring in a photo of themselves reading to either a pet/sibling/family member or favourite toy to display in our reading book area.

 Hello everyone!

The children have settled extremely well and are starting to learn the routine of the classroom.



Please see below an insight of the subjects and topics for this term.

English

We will be learning about list poems and traditional tales. The children will be reading the stories, sequencing events, carrying out comprehension activities and writing their own stories. They will be interviewing characters from the stories so that they are able to discover how they feel and why they acted the way they did. We will use role play to tell stories and re-write story endings.

 Maths

Securing fluency to 20, regrouping and solve problems using addition and subtraction.

 Science

Our science topic is everyday materials. The children will identify and compare a variety of materials, gather and record data along with carrying out different experiments.

 History

 Our topic is the history of the school. We will read some old logbooks we have dating back to 1897 and compare the school to Victorian times.

 Art

Observational drawings, exploring shading using different pencils. We will be researching the famous artist/architect Antoni Gaudi for our class display.

 PSHE

Being me in my world. We will discuss children’s hopes and fears, recognise when they are worried and know who to ask for help along with how to work with others cooperatively and help others to learn.

 ICT

Develop familiarity with computer/laptop and keyboard.

 RE

Expressing religious meaning. We will look at why light, water and a tree are an important religious symbol.
