Happy Half Term, Everyone!

It was lovely to see so many of you at our parent consultations this week. The children have settled beautifully into the routines and expectations of Year 2 — I’m sure you’ll agree that their progress so far has been fantastic!

Below is an overview of the topics we will be covering next term:

English – We will continue with our book Dear Earth. The children will create a travel log, write a letter and produce an informative leaflet.

Maths – Our focus will be on addition and subtraction, as well as exploring 2D and 3D shapes.

Science – We will continue learning about the uses of everyday materials, exploring transparency and opacity, natural and manmade materials and researching famous inventors.

Geography – Our topic question is “Would you like to live in a hot or cold place?” The children will begin by learning Where are the continents?

PSHE – Our theme will be Celebrating Differences.

RE – We will be learning about Hanukkah and Christmas.

D&T – Our focus will be on creating Hand Puppets, and the children will also design and make a hand puppet.

Computing – The topic will be Digital Photography.

Hello everyone!

We had a wonderful afternoon during our Materials Workshop! The children took part in a range of exciting activities to explore, investigate and describe different materials and their properties.

Next week


English – We will be starting our new book ‘Dear Earth’ by Isabel Otter and Clara Anganuzzi. The children will write a set of instructions and record factual statements about their chosen animals.

Maths – We will be practising different methods to solve calculations involving 10 more, 10 less, adding and subtracting multiples of 10, as well as adding two 2-digit numbers (both across and not across a ten).

PSHE – Our focus will be on working well with others, learning how to cooperate effectively and support one another.

Computing – The children will use iPads to research their chosen animal from our English lessons.

Spellings – Next week we will be focusing on common exception words. The children will practise these daily in class. You can find the list under the “Year 2 Common Words” tab, starting with the first column – door to everybody.

Happy Friday, everyone!

The children have worked incredibly hard this week – well done to them all!

Please find below an overview of next week’s learning:

English – The children will continue planning and writing a short story based on a journey. We will also be discussing future dreams and wishes.

Maths – We will be solving calculations using different methods to add and subtract within 10.

Home Learning – If possible, please continue to practise number bonds to 10 and 20 with your child.

PSHE – We will be learning about understanding other people’s feelings, listening carefully to others, and sharing our own ideas.

History – The children will explore our school’s logbooks, some of which date back to 1940!

Science – On Tuesday afternoon, we are holding a materials workshop, where the children will take part in a range of activities to investigate and describe materials and their properties.

Computing – We will explore the benefits of using IT in the wider world.

Good afternoon,

What a wonderful start to the day we had! The children sang beautifully, and it was lovely to see so many of you at our Harvest Coffee Morning.

Next week’s learning:

English – As part of Black History Month, we will be reading Coming to England. The children will be exploring a character’s feelings, describing settings using their five senses, and writing a short story based on a journey.

Maths – We will focus on addition and subtraction within 100, including adding by making 10.

Home Learning – If possible, please practise number bonds to 10 and 20 with your child.

PSHE – We will be discussing rules and responsibilities.

History – The children will write a recount of our trip to The British Schools Museum.

Science – We will learn about the inventor Charles Macintosh.

Art – The children will develop ideas and create a print on a polystyrene tile.
