Hello everyone and happy Friday!
We have had an extremely busy week full
of fun and especially the children's performance of Lights, camel, action it was absolutely amazing. They all thoroughly enjoyed singing the songs, well
done everyone and on Monday morning, they will perform their show once again to the
school.

We all had lots of fun at the Christmas jumper and Christmas dinner
today, please see below a few pictures taken during the meal.
Monday morning is sharing assembly followed by our Christmas performance to the school.
In the afternoon it is our KS1 Christmas party. Children can bring in party clothes to change into after lunch.
Wednesday we are lucky to have a drama company visiting
us on Wednesday performing the pantomime Dick Whittington and his cat.

Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon - perform our Christmas show to yourselves.
Wednesday morning we will be listening to a virtual session on the festival of Hanukkah. Also, after the performance is open afternoon, to look at your children's books.
Thursday morning we are going to Christ Church to discuss and complete fun activities on Christmas.
Friday is Christmas jumper and dinner day. In the afternoon the children will watch a movie.

Wow, it’s Friday again and we are now in December!
We have had a
busy fun week rehearsing for the Christmas performance the children have been
practising their lines and songs.
In maths, the
children have been enjoying learning the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We
will continue looking at shapes next week along with making patterns.

the children will create a Christmas calligram using exciting adjectives.
In geography,
the children will discuss and write about which country either hot or cold they
would prefer to live in.

This week, in English the children
wrote an explanation text on how to fly a kite and how a pencil sharpener
works.
In maths, we looked at 2D and 3D
shapes along with line of symmetry.
In RE, the children enjoyed learning
about Hanukkah the Jewish festival of light.
In geography, the children compared
UK and Kenya and discuss whether they lived in a hot and cold country.
In science, the children chose what
materials would be best suited to create a rocket.

D&T – to decorate their Christmas stockings

Hello,
In English next week we will
discuss how to write an explanation, which will be centred, on how to make a
bicycle move and what is a bicycle. The children will also be practising their
lines and songs for the Christmas show along with starting to use expression.
In maths next week, the children will solve missing
number problems and complete the end of unit assessment.
Throughout the week, the children will start to sew
and create their Christmas stocking.
It is anti-bullying week next week, on Monday the
children can come to school wearing odd socks, this is a great way to celebrate
what makes us all unique.
On Friday, it is Children
in Need - the children can wear something spotty to school.

Hello to all!
This week in English the children have
story mapped their day when they had lost their favourite toy using adverbs of
time.
Next week, the children will write their
recount and include adjectives, adverbs of time and conjunctions.
In maths, the children carried out
various activities to develop a good understanding on adding 10s using 2-digit
numbers.
Next week, the children will solve calculations subtracting 2 single digit numbers using 10s.
Next week
Geography – to research where are the
coldest places on Earth.
Science – we will be looking at
absorbent materials.
RE – to learn about how Hanukah
is celebrated.
D&T – to start to design a
Christmas stocking puppet.
Home learning
Following on the topic of puppets. I
would like the children to create a moving puppet of their choice. The children
are very excited to create their Christmas stocking in school and had some very
imaginative ideas. I look forward to seeing their moving puppet and for the
children to discuss their character and materials they have used to the class.
Date for the puppets to be in by
please is the Monday 11th December 2023.
The children have in their book bags a
pink book, which they can complete any kind of activities they would like to
do. For example, write stories, practise spellings/maths, research countries of
world etc. This book is to show children learning can happen beyond the
classroom.

Happy half term everyone!
It was great to see so many of you
at parent consultations this week.
The children have settled
extremely well into the routine and expectations of Year 2, I am sure like me
you are very proud of their progress.
Please see below an
insight of the topics we will be covering next term.
English – the children will create a recount, this will be on the book
‘Dogger’. The children will describe the character’s feelings; create a wanted
poster along with creating a recount using adverbs of time and conjunctions to
extend their sentence writing. The following topic, we will be discussing the
difference between instruction and explanation. The children will write their
own explanations.
Maths – the units are addition and subtraction along with 2D and 3D shapes.
Science - We will continue our topic on the uses of everyday materials and we
will start with exploring what materials are best suited for a waterproof coat,
along with discussing natural and manmade materials and researching famous
inventors.
Geography - Our topic is 'Would you like to live in a hot or cold place? Our
first lesson will be learning, Where are the continents?
PSHE - The topic is
'Celebrating differences'.
RE - We will be learning about Diwali, Hanukkah
and Christmas.
D&T - The topic is on creating 'Hand
Puppets', the children will create a Christmas stocking.

We had a wonderful time at the British Museum in Hitchin. The children were extremely well behaved and enjoyed the role-play acting as Victorian children.
