Hello everyone!

The children thoroughly enjoyed the Great Fire of London workshop; they looked fantastic in their costumes as you can see below.











































Reminder on Friday is our class assembly this will start at 9 o’clock in the hall.

Next week

English - we will continue on our class book ‘15 things not to do with a puppy’ and the children will create a wanted poster for a friend which will include verbs, suffixes and connectives.

Maths -  we will finish our topic on multiplication and division using 2, 5 and 10 and complete our end of topic assessment.

Geography -  we will start our new topic on ‘Life in the city’. We will start with identifying the geographical characteristics of the UK and locate some of the world’s most amazing places.

RE -  we will discuss the celebration of Shabbat.

PSHE -  we will discuss healthy lifestyle choices and learn ideas on how to relax.

Art -  the children will learn about the artist Pablo Picasso.

Group 2 – careful, careless, fearful, fearless, happy, happily, happiness

Group 3 – colour, colourful, colourless, neatest, greatest, oldest.

Happy half term and hooray the sun is shining!

The children looked fantastic with their crazy hair; I hope you enjoy the pictures below.





Please find below a brief outline of the topics the children will be covering over the next term.

 English

We will be reading the story ’15 things not to do with a puppy’. The children will create posters of ideas of what not to do and should do for your teacher! The children will learn commands, apostrophe for contraction and recap suffixes.

 Maths

Continuing our topic on multiplication and division then we will at start a new topic on length, height, capacity and temperature.

 Science

Animals including humans continued.

 Geography

Life in the city.

 PSHE

Healthy me.

 RE

The Lord’s Prayer, The Easter Story, Shabbat and Passover.

 ICT

Decoding, create a power point and record using an iPad.

Art:

Pablo Picasso, the children will research the artist and recreate one of the paintings by cutting shapes with coloured card.

Reminder – Great Fire of London workshop is on Wednesday 28th February. Please could the children dress up, here are some ideas:

Boys – plain t-shirt (with or without a collar) a belt or cord around the waist, plain waistcoat and flat cap (if you have one) and school trousers tucked in their socks.

Girls – plain white shirt with a collar, long plain skirt or dress (black, brown or dark blue), a plain waistcoat (if you have one), an apron or use a white pillowcase and for their head white material tied around their head to hide the hair.

 

Home Learning – the children can choose a country to research and write some facts on the following: their capital city, language, surrounding countries, someone famous, a famous landmark and any other facts if they wish to. An A4 or A3 size would be perfect, as I would like these to be displayed in the classroom.

Please could their home learning be completed by Friday 22nd March.

 Hello everyone!

We have had an extremely fun and productive week. The children finished their stories on their own version of The Enormous Turnip and also wrote detailed acrostic poems on The Great Fire of London.

Next week, the children will create calligrams on The Great Fire of London, which will be displayed in our class book.

In maths, the children have been learning grouping and repeated addition for multiplication.

Next week, the children will be learning arrays and solving problems using the 2 times tables and division.

Thank you very much Mrs Prime for visiting us this week and discussing how babies grow, the children very much enjoyed your visit and listening to their heart beat.

We visited Christ Church and the children carried out lots of fun activities.











The children also enjoyed creating and eating their fruit kebabs.






Spellings this week will be learning the Year 2 common exception words, these will be practised daily in the classroom.

Happy Friday!

In English the children have worked extremely hard planning their own version of the story of ‘The Enormous Turnip,‘ they have included different recurring language and changed the characters. The children have started to write the beginning of their story.

Next week, the children will finish their own version of ‘The Enormous Turnip’ and self-mark checking that they have change the characters and repeated phrases and included commas and exclamation marks. During the end of the week, we will discuss acrostic poems and create a poem on The Great Fire of London.

In maths, we finished our topic on money and have started learning grouping and ungrouping on multiplication and division.

Next week, we will be looking at arrays to solve multiplication calculations.

In D&T our topic is on healthy food, this Thursday the children will be creating fruit kebabs. (The children do not need to bring in any fruit for this lesson, the school will provide this)

On Tuesday, we are visiting Christ Church in Little Heath. We will be discussing and carrying out activities on what we can see inside a church.

Next week is mental health and wellbeing; we will be carrying out various activities along with activities for safer internet day.

Group 2 – wrist, write, written, wrote, writing, wrong.

Group 3 – wrapping, wreckage, wriggled, wristband.

Hello everyone!

The children have worked extremely hard producing their own story on The Three Billy Goats Gruff; they created their own recurring sentences and including adjectives, exclamation and question marks.

In maths, the children enjoyed solving problems solving using coins and pounds.

Next week

English - we will be focusing on the story The Enormous Turnip and changing the characters and the recurring sentences.

Maths – we are starting our new topic on multiplication and division.

Home learning

To learn the 2, 5 and 10 times tables up to 12. We will also be revising these times tables in class over the next few weeks.

Science – to discuss what they would take on a trip to Mars to survive.

History – to find out about Samuel Pepys and his diary.

RE – to discuss and think about why religious places are special to people and how they help them to feel close to God.

Good afternoon to all,

The children have had a very productive week in English planning their own version of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. They have worked very hard checking they have changed the characters and repeated phrases, including commas, adjectives and exclamation marks.

Next week, in English, the children will write their stories and we will be continuing our topic on recurring language. We will be looking at the story The Enormous Turnip.

In maths, we have been looking at money and the children have solved maths problems using addition and subtraction with coins and pounds.

Next week, we will continue our topic on money and start to look at multiplication and division.

Home learning – to play shops with real/toy money. I have mentioned to the children that they can otherwise make their own money from paper.

 In science, the children described and drew pictures of the stages from a baby to an adult.

Next week, the children will draw a picture of how an animal changes as it grows.

 In D&T, we have discussed healthy eating and next week, the children will draw a detailed fruit kebab.

 In history, the children learnt the events of the Great Fire and next week the children will find out why the fire spread so quickly and stayed alight for so long.

Happy New Year everyone!

The children have settled extremely well back into the daily routine. 

They have enjoyed learning the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and they are starting to think of alternative ideas for their story, which they will write next week. In maths, the children have enjoyed learning money, solving calculations using different coins and notes.

Please see below the lessons for next week and an insight of the topics we will cover in this term.

English - our topic starts with stories with recurring literacy language. Our first traditional story will be The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The children will role-play and create their own version of this story.

Maths - the topic is on money. Next week, they will be counting, comparing and calculating sums using notes and coins.

Science - our topic is animals, including humans. The children will discuss and observe that animals, including humans have offspring, which grow into adults, by describing the changes to animals as they grow.

History - the topic is on the Great Fire of London. We will start the topic by introducing where and when the Great Fire of London started.

D&T - the topic is preparing fruit and vegetables. The children will discuss fruit and vegetables and investigate a variety of fruit and vegetables to understand where a range of fruit and vegetables come from.

ICT - the children will develop familiarity and typing skills with the computer and keyboard along with, understanding that the internet contains a large amount of information and recognise the need to use search tools and search engines to begin to find information. The children will also create a healthy eating poster.

PSHE - the topic is Dreams and Goals, encouraging the children to stay motivated when doing something challenging. The children will identify their successes and know how this makes them feel proud.

RE - the children will be learning different ways of giving thanks to God. They will discuss where they like to go that is special to you. The children will discuss and draw their special place. Within the term, we hope to be able to visit Little Heath Christ Church.

On Wednesday 28th February, we will have a workshop and actors visiting us on our history topic The Great Fire of London. We do require parent helpers please either for the morning, afternoon or all day to support us with the activities. Please let me know if you available.

 

Please could the children make sure they have their full PE kit in school for next week’s lessons.

Don’t forget that if you wish to enter the competition to name our reading tree in the KS2 library, you need to give your class teacher a piece of paper with your name and class written on it and the name that you would like to give the tree, by next Friday at the latest.
