Good afternoon to all!

We have also had a brilliant Spanish Day! The children fully embraced the experience, enjoying lots of flamenco dancing and learning Spanish songs. It was lovely to see their excitement as they explored a different culture through music, movement, and language.

In art, the children created detailed clay pots using a range of tools. They also learned how to join two pieces of clay effectively using the score and slip technique.

This week in English, the children really enjoyed writing their own diary entries and working together to create a class-rhyming poem inspired by The Owl and the Pussy-cat.

Next week, we are excited to begin our new class book, The Dragon Machine by Helen Ward. The children will be using positional language to write descriptive sentences, as well as creating commands to give advice.

In maths, the children have been enjoying learning about fractions and have developed a good understanding of halves, thirds, and quarters. Next week, they will build on this knowledge by recognising the equivalence of one half and two quarters, as well as identifying three quarters.

Next week

In history, the children will learn about how Florence Nightingale improved conditions at the Scutari Hospital.

In science, the children will take part in an observational walk around the school to explore trees and plants. They will then write instructions explaining how to plant a sunflower seed.

In RE, we will continue exploring charities and their role in promoting justice and fairness.

Spellings for Friday are:

Group 1 – should, also, what, when.

Group 2 – badly, hopeless, penniless, happily, lovely, joyless, slowly, quickly, careless, fearless.

Wishing you a fun, sunny weekend.

From the Year 2 team.

Friday, 17 April 2026

Hello, everyone and I hope you all had a lovely Easter break.

The children have settled very quickly into the daily routine, they have worked extremely hard in all their lessons and especially on their handwriting and letter formation.

As you know, the school pool has now been installed and the children have begun their swimming lessons. They have made a fantastic start and shown great enthusiasm. Please could children ensure they bring their swimming kit (including costume, towel, and any other essentials) every day, as there may be additional opportunities for extra swimming sessions.

In English, we have started working on our new class book, 'The Owl and the Pussy Cat' by Edward Lear. The children worked hard creating subordinating conjunctions to predict a story along with learning noun phrases and creating a letter with contraction words.

Next week, the children will learn possessive pronouns to include in a diary entry and use words with the prefix un- to write a set of commands.

In maths, we have started our new topic on fractions and the children have enjoyed solving calculations using whole and halves.

Next week, the children will learn quarters and thirds.

In computing, the children enjoyed creating digital music.

In history, the children learnt some interesting facts on Florence Nightingale.

Reminder –

On Thursday we have a Spanish workshop and children can wear Spanish or red/ yellow clothes on the day. We will also be celebrating and completing activities for St George’s Day.
