Good afternoon to all,
I hope you all had a lovely half term; the children
have settled back quickly into the daily routine and have worked extremely hard
this week.
In English, the children are enjoying our new book ‘Toys
in Space’ by Mini Grey. They have created a found poster using expanded noun
phrases and used commas in lists to write an invitation.
In maths, the children learnt to tell the time o’clock,
half past, quarter past, quarter to and to 5 minutes.
In geography, the children located the countries, cities
and oceans around the United Kingdom.
In science, the children explored the difference
between things that are living and not living.
Next week, throughout the week, the children will be
completing practice SATS papers on reading and maths. To support this, our lessons
will focus to how to approach and effectively answer the types of questions
they may encounter. The children will sit the SATS papers the following week, these are only
to support my end of year assessments and will not be published as they are
optional and not mandatory. The children will be unaware they are tests as I
will explain they are to support my planning of lessons until the end of the
year.
During the afternoon, the children will be creating
clay shapes using pinching techniques and modelling tools.
The spellings will be revisiting the Year 2 high
frequency common words, which the children will practice daily in the mornings.
Have a great weekend.
From the Year 2 team.
