Good afternoon, everyone,

We have had a brilliant week! The children have worked incredibly hard, and we are very proud of them. Well done, everyone! 

In English, the children have been focusing on their handwriting and are beginning to form their letters correctly. They had great fun discovering a variety of animal footprints around the school and learning which animals they belonged to. 

The children also used their imagination to create fantastic posters of their own mysterious creatures, using exciting adjectives to describe them. We have been so impressed with their creativity and enthusiasm!

Next week, the children will be creating command sentences including verbs and learn when to use –s or –es on the end of animal names. All the lessons will be centred on our class book ‘The Journey Home’.

In maths, the children enjoyed using base ten to solve calculations.

Next week, the children will partition numbers to 100 and find the missing numbers on a number line.

We will recognise that objects are made from materials that suit their uses.

RE

We will watch and discuss a virtual lesson on Rosh Hashanah from the Jewish Museum of London.

History

We will continue to learn and compare what schooling was like over 100 years ago.

 ICT

The children will be discussing IT within in the school.

Half Term Project – 500 Words

Due in the week commencing 19th October 2026

500 Words Challenge

I would like all children to enter the BBC’s 500 Words Challenge. All they need to do is write a story they would love to read in 500 words or fewer. Spelling, punctuation and grammar are not marked – it is all about creativity and imagination!

500 Words celebrates children’s creativity, encouraging young writers from across the UK to create an original story. This year, the celebrity judges include Malorie Blackman, Charlie Higson, Francesca Simon, Sir Lenny Henry, Frank Cottrell-Boyce and Rose Ayling-Ellis.

The bronze, silver and gold winners in each age category will be revealed by the BBC in early March 2027. The winning stories will also be read aloud by celebrities on the BBC.

There are lots of prizes to be won too! Winners will receive a bundle of books, while the gold winners will also win 500 books for their school library. Each winning story will also receive a framed, illustrated cover created exclusively by a top children’s illustrator.

Children can only submit one story each. There are very few rules, but please remember that stories must:

• Be 500 words or fewer (the title is not included)
• Be written by an individual, not a group
• Be the child’s own original idea
• Be prose, rather than a rap or poem

Stories must not:

• Include any personal details about the child, including their name
• Recount a historical event (although real people or historical characters can be used as inspiration)
• Be created, written or developed using AI

Stories are judged on:

• Characterisation
• Plot
• Originality
• Language
• Enjoyment

Please note: stories can only be submitted electronically, so they will need to be typed and sent to me rather than handwritten.

Welcome Back, Year 2!

Hello everyone!

We have had a fun and busy first couple of days back, and it has been lovely to see the children settling so well into their new routines. They have made a fantastic start to the term!

Below is a brief overview of some of the topics we will be covering over the coming weeks.

Our Learning This Term

English – We will be exploring a range of different text types, including posters, lists, postcards, short stories, advertisements and explanations.

Maths – We will be developing fluency within 20, exploring regrouping and subtraction, and strengthening our understanding of place value.

Science – We will be learning about the uses of everyday materials.

History – We will discover more about the history of Victorian schools.

Art – We will develop our drawing skills, focusing on tone and texture.

PSHE – Our theme will be Being Me in My World.

ICT – We will explore what IT is and how we use technology in school and in the wider world.

RE – We will be exploring how people express religious meaning.

PE Timetable

Monday: Please bring a change of footwear.
Wednesday & Friday: Full PE kit required.

Please remember to label all items of clothing, including footwear, to help prevent belongings from getting lost.

Next Week's Learning

English
We will read and discuss our new story, The Journey Home by Frann Preston-Gannon. The children will create their own posters, including questions, statements and commands.

Maths
Our focus will be place value. The children will use place value charts and practise partitioning numbers up to 100.

Science
We will investigate the properties of different materials. 

RE
We will discuss religion and explore different religious symbols.

Art
We will look at observational drawings and explore different types of shading.

History
We will learn about the history of our school by looking at old photographs and school logbooks.

PSHE
During circle time, we will talk about our hopes and fears for the year ahead.

ICT
We will discuss the question: What is IT? and think about the different ways we use technology.

Spelling

Our spelling test will take place on Friday mornings. The children will practise their spellings in class at the beginning of each day.

Where has the year gone!

To our Year 2 superstars – what an incredible year it has been!

We just wanted to say what a fantastic and fun year we've had with your children. They have all worked incredibly hard, and we are so proud of everything they have achieved.

It has been a pleasure to watch them grow in confidence, develop new skills, and make wonderful memories throughout the year.

Hello everyone,

I can't believe we've reached our final class blog of the year!

Here's a reminder of what's happening next week:

Monday morning: We will be watching the Year 6 performance.

Tuesday morning: The Year 6 pupils will take on the teachers in a rounders match.

Wednesday morning: We will celebrate our Year 6 pupils at their leaving assembly.

A reminder that school finishes at 1:15 pm on Wednesday for the summer holidays.

Where is the year going?

In Maths, the children have enjoyed revisiting the topics we have covered throughout the year, and we will continue consolidating their learning next week.

In English, the children will be writing a diary entry, focusing on using a variety of verbs to make their writing more engaging. They will also research and create a character from the 1600s.

Throughout the week, the children will be completing and celebrating their Year 2 topics.

Happy Friday everyone!

It was lovely to see so many of you for parent consultations this week and discuss how fantastically your children have done this year, well done everyone.

Next week

English – the children will research London and include command sentences in a poster.

Maths – the children will consolidate the topics taught in Year 2.

Science – the children will learn life cycles on a selection of animals.

RE – we will discuss good over evil, looking at the story Jack and the Beanstalk.

On Thursday 9th July it will be 'transition day.' This means that each class will move to their new class for one hour to give the teachers time to get to know them and the children to ask any questions they may have and familiarise themselves with their new room.

 At 3.30pm and 5pm there will be meetings for the parents. Parents will meet with the new class teachers to discuss any changes, ask questions and generally get to know their child's new teacher.

Good afternoon,

The children have worked incredibly hard this week despite the hot weather – well done, everyone!

Please enjoy the photos of the children, who demonstrated fantastic creativity while designing and building their moving vehicles. They showed great imagination and enthusiasm throughout the activity.

Next week:

English – The children will begin writing their own version of the story Toys in Space, using adjectives, commas in a list, adverbs, expanded noun phrases and conjunctions.

Maths – We will continue our learning on position and direction.

Geography – We will discuss how people use our local coast and collect data using tally charts and pictograms.

Science – The children will be creating bug hotels.

PSHE – We will learn to recognise the physical differences between boys and girls, use the correct names for parts of the body, and understand that some parts of our bodies are private.

The children have completed their SATS papers and a huge well done to everyone, they have worked incredibly hard.

English – the children will plan their own version a story centred on our class book, Toys in Space, this will  included adjectives, adverbs and noun phrases. 

Maths – We will we start our new topic on position and direction.

D&T – On Thursday and Friday morning, the children we will be creating their moving vehicles.

Science – The children will enjoy a nature walk around the field and create bug hotels for mini-beasts.

If possible, please could your child bring in an empty small plastic bottle.

PSHE – We will discuss the natural process of growing and changing from young to old.

If you have any small cardboard boxes at home (shoe box size or smaller), please could your child bring one into school to use for their moving vehicle project.

The children have had a fantastic and productive week. They have worked incredibly hard, completing English and Maths SATs practice papers, including the 2026 English Reading Paper and Maths Paper 1 (Arithmetic). Well done everyone!

English – We will continue exploring our class book, Toys in Space. The children will write a fantasy setting description, consider the story from different perspectives, and use expanded noun phrases to create a character profile.

Maths – We will continue revising reasoning strategies and complete the 2026 Maths Paper 2 (Reasoning).

Good afternoon to all,

I hope you all had a lovely half term; the children have settled back quickly into the daily routine and have worked extremely hard this week.

In English, the children are enjoying our new book ‘Toys in Space’ by Mini Grey. They have created a found poster using expanded noun phrases.

In maths, the children finished the topic on statistics.

In geography, the children located the countries, cities and oceans around the United Kingdom.

Throughout this week and next week, the children are completing a range of reading and mathematics practice papers, including this Year 2 SATs papers. To support the children, our lessons will focus on developing effective strategies for approaching and answering different question types, helping them build confidence and apply their learning independently.

These practice papers are being used solely to inform my end-of-year teacher assessments and will not be published. As the assessments are optional and not part of the statutory SATs process, they are being used as a tool to help identify strengths and any areas that may benefit from further teaching before the end of the academic year.

The children will be introduced to the papers as learning activities that will help inform future lesson planning and ensure that teaching continues to meet their needs throughout the remainder of the year.

Next Week’s Learning

English – The children will edit for spellings against the success criteria on their narratives inspired by The Dragon Machine, checking their writing includes expanded noun phrases, past tense verbs, conjunctions and exciting vocabulary. Then the children will re write their edited version in their neatest handwriting.

Maths – We will start our new topic on Statistics, focusing on:

Science – We will continue to be learning about life cycles and observing the growth of our sunflowers.
