Happy Friday everyone!

The children have worked extremely hard creating a non-chronological report on sharks. They included expanded nouns and conjunctions.

In maths, the children solved numerus calculations using multiplication and division.

Next week

English – the children will practise a SATS comprehension paper along with grammar and spelling.

Maths – the children will solve maths problems choosing their own method to solve the questions.

We will be finishing all our topics for this term.

On Tuesday, during the morning we will watch the KS2 performance.

On Thursday, we have our Great Fire of London workshop day.

Spellings for next Friday are:

Group 1 – could, house, old, too

Group 2 – badly, loudly, happily, cheerfully, careful, playful

Group 3 – colourful, colourless, powerful, powerless

Good afternoon, it’s unbelievable how the weeks are just flying by and it’s Friday again!

In English, the children have been researching and learning lots of interesting facts about sharks. With their notes, they have written the children next week will write their report on sharks, including expanded nouns and conjunctions.

In maths the children having been learning multiplication using arrays. We will continue learning commutativity multiplication using different strategies next week.

Next week

Science – On Tuesday, the children will attend a science workshop.

D&T – to create a Picasso painting-using water paints.

RE- to sequence the Easter story.

Geography – to locate various countries and capital cities using a globe, atlas and iPad.

Spellings for Friday are:

Group 1 – their, there, they’re

Group 2 – action, fiction, section, nation, station, position.

Group 3 – solution, imagination, reception, multiplication.

Reminder – Great Fire of London workshop is on Thursday 30th March. Please could the children dress up, here are some ideas:

Boys – plain t-shirt (with or without a collar) a belt or cord around the waist, plain waistcoat and flat cap (if you have one) and school trousers tucked in their socks.

Girls – plain white shirt with a collar, long plain skirt or dress (black, brown or dark blue), a plain waistcoat (if you have one), an apron or use a white pillowcase and for their head white material tied around their head to hide the hair.

Hello everyone!

Wow, another very busy week in Year 2.

Firstly, the children as I am sure you would agree produced a fantastic assembly this morning. They projected their voices and used expression along with actions, well done Year 2.

The children had an amazing fun time at the snow centre on Tuesday.


































On ‘Maths Day’ the children learnt the vertices, faces, surfaces and edges of  2D and 3D shapes and created shapes using straws, geoboards and 3D nets.

We also visited Christ Church and the children carried out lots of fun activities.

 Next week

In English the children will start their topic on non-chronological report. They will research sharks and gather notes along with writing facts for their report writing next week. 

In maths, the children will be learning patterns and strategies to 2s,3s, 5s and 10s-time tables. This will include recall and use of multiplication and division facts.

 Pre-learning: To practise recall of 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

In RE, the chlldren will sequence the Easter story.

In science, the children will complete a variety of exercises and discuss what happens to their body, heart beat and pulse.

In geography, we will be looking at the physical and human features of Cape Town.

Group 1 – their, there, they’re

Group 2 – wasp, squash, swap, wander, watching, swan

Group 3 – wallet, swallow, squabble, quality

Mrs Chapman left today to have her bundle of joys and said she will be in touch. We look forward to seeing her and her gorgeous babies soon, ‘Happy Maternity Leave!’

Hello everyone!

The children looked amazing on World Book Day, during the afternoon the children shared their favourite books with Year 3. Please see below some pictures.

 










Next week, we have a busy and exciting week planned, below is an insight of what your children will be doing.

Tuesday – in the morning the children will be going to the snow centre, please ensure they have the appropriate clothing.

Wednesday – is Maths Day, the children will be learning and completing lots of fun activities using 2D and 3D shapes.

Thursday – after register the children will be visiting Christ Church.

Friday – is our class assembly and the children are looking forward to sharing their work with you.

Lessons covered within the class are:

Maths – problem solving.

Geography – to explore the physical and human features of Edinburgh.

Science – to describe the importance for humans to exercise.

Art – to create a flower picture using water paints.

Spellings for next Friday are:

Group 1 – can, are, up, had

Group 2 – fly, flies, cry, cries, baby, babies, reply, replies

Group 3 –story, stories, memory, memories

Happy Friday!

In English, the children have enjoyed creating command sentences on what they should and should not do for their teacher; we had some very interesting ideas!

Next week, we will be practising for our class assembly, which is on Friday 10th March.

In maths, the children have been learning time: o’clock, quarter past, half past, quarter to and 5 minute intervals. Telling the time is quite a difficult process, please if possible could you regularly ask your child the time in order for them to build their confidence.

Please see below an insight of the topics that we will be covering this term, 

English

We will be reading the story ’15 things not to do with a puppy’. The children will learn commands, apostrophe for contraction and recap suffixes. The children will create a non-chronological report and look at a variety of poems.

 Maths

Problem solving with addition and subtraction in a range of contexts, telling the time, doubling and halving and learn the 2, 5 and 10 times tables to help support multiplication calculations.

 Science

Animals including humans continued.

 Geography

Where do I live?

 PSHE

Healthy me.

 RE

The Easter Story, Shabbat and Passover.

 ICT

Create a PowerPoint on ‘How to care for a pet’ and learn how to use an iPad for recording.

Art:

Pablo Picasso, the children will research the artist and recreate one of the paintings using water paints.

On Thursday, it is World Book Day; the children can come in wearing their pyjamas along with their favourite book or in their characters costume if they have one.

Happy Friday everyone!

Please see below home learning but please do not worry the due date is Friday 17th March.

Home Learning – the children can choose a country to research and write some facts on the following: their capital city, language, surrounding countries, someone famous, a famous landmark and any other facts if they wish to. I would like these to be displayed on the wall, therefore one A4 or A3 size would be perfect.

Please could their home learning be completed by Friday 17th March.

Hello everyone!

In English, the children enjoyed creating a detailed storyboard on the middle and ending of their story, based on ‘The Three Little Pigs’.

Next week, the children will write the middle and ending of their own version of ‘The Three Little Pigs’. They will change the characters and repeated phrases along with including conjunctions and exclamation marks. The children will also create an acrostic poem on 'The Great Fire of London'.

In D&T, our topic is on healthy food, on Monday the children will be creating fruit kebabs. (The children will not need to bring in any fruit for this lesson, the school will provide this)

In maths, the children will continue to learn new methods of grouping and regrouping to 10, subtracting 2-digit numbers.

In science, we will be discussing healthy eating and the children will create a healthy menu.

In history, the children learnt about Samuel Pepys and his diary. Next week, the children will complete a comprehension on ‘The Great Fire of London’.

If possible, please could the children complete the last two reading comprehensions - 

The selfish giant and Toad attach.

We will continue with the maths workbook after half term.

Spellings for Friday are:

Group 1 – dad, big, when, it’s.

Group 2 – wrist, write, written, wrote, wrong, writing.

Group 3 – wrapping, wreckage, wriggled, wristband.

On Tuesday, it is Safer Internet Day. We will be discussing how to stay safe on the internet and the children will be carrying out fun activities.

A reminder Thursday evening is the Valentine disco, for KS1 the time is 5.30 – 6.45pm.
