We made it – half term is here!

It was lovely to meet you all this week and discuss your child’s progress and how well the children have settled into Year 2.

 



We had some little visitors in our classroom during the week, which the children were all very excited about seeing. Thank you very much Mrs Cunningham for bringing in the very cute chicks and explaining to the children their life cycle.







 

 

Home learning

Following on the topic of puppets. I would like the children to create a moving puppet of their choice. We have looked at lots of different ideas. The children will discuss the materials they have used to the class.

Date for the puppets to be in by is 24th November 2022.

Next term, an insight of what we will be focusing on.

Maths – Handling data, calculating measuring and understanding shape along with knowing and using number facts.

English – Explanations, recount and calligrams.

Science – Materials.

Geography – Life in the city.

R.E. – Muslim prayer and action and festivals including Christmas.

D&T/Art – Creating Christmas stockings.

PSHE – Celebrating difference.

ICT – Communicating and collaborating online.

With the cold weather potentially coming soon, could you please make sure that any extra clothing that comes in (gloves, scarfs, hats, etc.) is clearly labelled.

Hello everyone,  we have had a very busy but fun week.

The children have worked extremely hard on their story centred on Rapunzel and created fantastic stories using their imagination and exciting adjectives.

In maths the children enjoyed using lots of different resources to solve their sums and they especially liked using the real coins.

Next week

English – to create their own version of Handa’s Surprise.

Maths – the children will be regrouping along with counting on and back.

Art – using charcoal to create an observational drawing on fruit.

RE – to finish our topic on the meanings of religious symbols.

PSHE – it is Equalities week and the children will complete numerous activities.

Spellings for next Friday are:

Group 1 – for, at, his, but

Group 2 – climb, cane, kite, chick, choose, chalk

Group 3 – Christmas, queue, ache, question

Reminder on Friday we are celebrating the anti-racism movement. It is non-uniform day but the children must wear at least one item that is red in exchange for doing this we would like the children to bring a donation of at least a pound for the charity. The children can either make the donation in cash and bring it into school or you can make the donation on your child’s Arbor portal.

Good afternoon,

Lovely to see you so many of you at the Harvest Coffee morning, the children sang their songs beautifully.

On Tuesday, we had a wonderful time at the British Museum in Hitchin.
The children were extremely well behaved and enjoyed the role play acting as Victorian children.

Next week

English – The children will continue to plan and create their own traditional tale, including adjectives, exclamation marks and a repeated sentence.

Maths – To identify place value.

Science – Testing materials for use of a coat.

History – To produce a recount on our class trip.

ICT – To develop familiarity with the computer and keyboard.

PSHE – To be a good listener and care about other people’s feelings.

RE – To research why light is important in the Jewish, Hindu and Christian religion.

Art – To use a variety of shading pencils to create different tones, patterns and textures.

Good afternoon everyone, the week has just flown by!

In English the children enjoyed performing Rapunzel and compared the original story to the modern version.

Next week, the children will write their own version of Rapunzel. The children will change the characters and setting along with including conjunctions and adjectives in their story.

In maths the children used a variety of resources and applied different strategies learnt to solve their sums.

Next week, the children will be regrouping tens and ones using objects, tens frames and coins along with exploring odd and even numbers.

In art, the children will draw the original entrance of the school using their shading skills.

Tuesday we are on our class trip to Hitchin British schools museum, which the children are very excited about. Please could your child bring in a pack lunch (please remember we are a nut free school and no fizzy drinks, thank you).

Thursday is poetry day centred on the environment and the children will produce an acrostic poem.

Friday is Harvest Festival and our slot is 9.30-10.00, we look forward to seeing you all.

Group 2 – poor, floor, door, fine, mine, behind

Group 3 – because, after, when, that, children.

 

Home learning

The children have been given a paper plate and card hands to create a clock.

Please could you support your children in telling the time to the o’clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to.

Please could the clocks be returned by 18th October.

The children can use any materials to create their clock, they do not have to use the resources that were sent home with them.

Good afternoon to all,

In English the children enjoyed using their imagination creating their own list poem of

‘Ten things found in a Wizard’s pocket’.

Next week, we will start our topic on Traditional Tales. The children will compare the story of Rapunzel the original and modern version and make inferences.

 

In maths, the children used a variety of resources and methods to solve sums on regrouping and counting on and back through 10.

Next week, the children will use 10 for adding 3 single digit numbers and will apply last weeks strategies learnt along with exploring odd and even numbers.

Science

The children will find out and experiment on how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

History

Mr Berridge visited our class and discussed the history of the school which the children were fascinated with hearing how the school looked and especially that the toilets were outside! Next week the children will write up their notes they wrote.

RE

The children will explore the Christian and Hindu religious symbols.

 

Spellings for next Friday are:

Group 1 : the, and, a, to.

Group 2 : sea, see, blue, blew, be, bee.

Group 3 : flour, flower, bear, bare

 

The children have taken home their login and passwords for Numbots. These are fun maths activities on addition and subtraction. The children can complete the tasks at home, we will also be practising in our ICT lessons over the next couple of weeks.

 Hello Year Two,

 We have had another action-packed week with lots of fun activities.

 

In English, the children enjoyed creating a list poem on ‘Autumn’ they included commas and adjectives.

Next week, the children will create a list poem on ‘Ten things found in a Wizard’s pocket’.

 

In maths, the children revisited number facts to 20 and beyond and explored doubling and halving.

Next week, the children will use a variety of resources and methods to solve sums on regrouping and counting on and back through 10 and 20.

Mr Berridge who attended Little Heath School will visit the class and talk about the history of the school.

 

Art

The children will create a firework picture.

 

RE

The children will explore the Christian religious symbols.

 

Spelling test will be on Friday mornings, the children can choose their group along with learning both or all groups if they want to.

Group 2 : bear, bare, bee, be, whole, hole.

Group 3 : allowed, aloud, boy, buoy.

 Hello and welcome Year 2,


The children have settled very quickly into the routine of the classroom.


Our focus this week was on outside learning and discussing the environment. The children enjoyed creating their own fun list on the layers of the soil which they learnt from our class book,  'The street beneath our feet’ . The children also worked together in small groups and created a collage using natural materials.
