 Happy Friday!


It was great to see so many of you at parent consultations this week.
The children have settled extremely well into the routine and expectations of Year 2, I'm sure like me you are very proud of their progress.

They looked fantastic and really enjoyed wearing their spooky costumes, please see below photos.









Please see below a brief insight of the topics we will be covering next term.


Literacy - We will be discussing the difference between instruction and explanation. The children will be writing their own explanations.

Maths - We will be representing, ordering and comparing numbers to 100, adding and subtracting 2 and 3 one digit numbers along with measuring using different scales.

Science - We will continue our topic on the uses of everyday materials and we will start with exploring melting ice using appropriate senses, discussing natural and manmade materials along with researching famous inventors.

Geography - We will start our topic on 'Where do I live?' this will include our school and surroundings.


PSHE - We will be start the topic on 'Celebrating differences'.

RE - We will be learning about Diwali, Hanukkah and Christmas.

D&T - We will be starting our topic on creating 'Hand Puppets'.

Have a fun and relaxing half term.

 Happy Friday!

The children have worked extremely hard this week, well done everyone!

In English, the children enjoyed role playing  the story of Handa's Surprise and started to plan their own version of the story which they will write next week. They also enjoyed learning about Mary Seacole for our Black  History day.

In maths, the children explored different sums using a variety of equipment.

Next week

English - to write their own version of Handa's Surprise changing the animals and/or fruit. We will discuss speech marks, exclamation and question marks to include in our stories.

Maths - Identify place value and representing their answer using different methods.

Science- to discuss natural materials and create a collage.

History - to recap and discuss the history of our school.

RE - to learn about the festival Hanukah.

PSHE - to work well with others cooperatively

Art - to create an observational drawing to include their new shading skills.

Spellings for Friday are:

Group 1 : with, that, all, we.

Group 2 : can, nail, neck, find, into, another.

Group 3 : gnome, many, own, know.

I look forward to seeing you either Monday morning or Thursday afternoon to discuss your child's achievements.

Good afternoon, lovely to see so many of you at the Harvest Coffee morning.

The children as I’m sure you will agree sang their songs beautifully and we have raised lots of money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

 

Please book your timeslot via the Parents Evening website. I am free to meet with you all on Monday 18th October in the morning or Thursday evening on the 21st October.

 

In English the children worked extremely hard writing their own story centred on Rapunzel.

In maths the children used the tens frame and coins to solve maths sums (breaking down a 10 into 10 ones).

Next week

English – the children will be involved in lots of discussion and look at the punctuation (speech, exclamation and question marks) in the story of ‘Handa’s Surprise’. The children will also role play the story.

Maths – to identify the place value in 2 digit numbers and compare and present their work using a range of equipment.

Science – to identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials by exploring the purposes of different objects.

History – to discuss the history of our school looking at the log books dating back over 100 years.

PSHE – To be a good listener and care about other people’s feelings.

RE – To research why light, water and trees are important Jewish religious symbols.

On Thursday it is Black History day and we will discuss Black History and learn about Mary Seacole.

Spellings for Friday are:

Group 2 – climb, cane, kite, chick, choose, chalk

Group 3 – queue, ache, questions, Christmas

Hello everyone!

In English, the children planned their story of their version of Rapunzel, we discussed adjectives and conjunctions to use in their story.

In maths, the children enjoyed solving problems using tens frame, cards, cherry model and learning the inequality signs.

Next week

English – The children will write their own version of Rapunzel, including adjectives and conjunctions.

Maths – Continue to recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20 fluently, regrouping using tens and ones and coins.

Science – To feel different materials and discuss how their shape changes.

ICT – To practise using the keyboard

PSHE – To be a good listener and care about other people’s feelings.

RE – To research why light, water and trees are important Christian religious symbols.

Art – To continue with observational drawings using a variety of shading pencils and draw the original entrance of Little Heath school.

Spellings for next week are:

Group 1 – they, on, she, is.

Group 2 – bridge, sledge, huge, huge, strange, change, badge.

Group 3 – porridge, footbridge, drawbridge.

We look forward to seeing you at the Harvest festival on Friday our time is 9.30-10.00, the children have been practising very hard and are looking forward to singing to you.


Home learning - Maths activities to be carried out by 20th October

Addition and subtraction game

You will need two bowls filled with cubes or other small objects, paper and a pen.

How to play

This game can be played individually or as a speed game against another player.

Grab a handful of objects from each bowl, count how many in each pile and write out an addition or subtraction sentence (remind children that the largest number needs to go first if they are practising subtraction).

If playing against another player. Both players take a handful, then race each other to write out the addition/subtraction number sentence.

 

Shapes

The children can choose any 2D or 3D shapes and write 5 statements about their shape.

Eg. My shape is 2D, it has … sides and it has ... faces etc

Please write about at least 5 shapes.
