Hello everyone, we have had a fun and busy first week back.

Today it was maths day, the children created detailed clocks and had fun learning fractions using playdough.

In English, the children created command sentences and learnt apostrophes and suffixes.

Next week

English –  to create an advertisement for a new friend

Maths – telling the time: o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to

Science – life cycles of animals

Art – children will learn about the artist Pablo Picasso

ICT – create an email

PSHE – discussing feelings

Geography – exploring the features of cities

Easter –discussing the Easter story

Thursday it is ‘World Book Day’ the children can wear their favourite book character and bring in their book, if they have one. We will be discussing the book Silly Billy by Anthony Browne.

Friday is our Great Fire of London workshop, please could all children dress up and if you volunteered last time, I hope you are still available again.

Happy Friday!

 Please find below a brief outline of the topics the children will be covering over the next term.

 English

We will be reading the story ’15 things not to do with a puppy’. The children will create posters of ideas of what not to do and should do for your teacher! The children will learn commands, apostrophe for contraction and recap suffixes.

 Maths

Problem solving with addition and subtraction in a range of contexts.

 Science

Animals including humans continued.

 Geography

Where do I live?

 PSHE

Healthy me.

 RE

The Lord’s Prayer, The Easter Story, Shabbat and Passover.

 ICT

Decoding, create an email and record using an iPad.

Art:

Pablo Picasso, the children will research the artist and recreate one of the paintings using water colours.

We have had another very busy, active week in Year 2.


In English the children wrote their own version of The Enormous Turnip, they used their imagination and created a very different detailed version.
Next week, the children will be writing shape poems. They will be looking at calligrams and acoustic poems centred on The Great Fire of London.

In maths the children used base 1- equipment to solve their problems.
Next week, the children will be solving maths problems using Cuisenaire rods.

In science the children identified healthy and unhealthy foods and created a list. Next week, we will continue with healthy foods and discuss the amount of protein, grains, dairy, vegetables and fruit we should be eating.

In D&T, the children had lots of fun making and eating their fruit kebabs.

The children are very excited for Tuesday - our Great Fire of London workshop. The children will be carrying out various activities on the Great Fire of London.

Next week is mental health and wellbeing, we will be carrying out various activities along with activities for safer internet day.

Please could the children complete the following pages and return the CGP books by Thursday, we will go through the answers every Friday as a class.
