Happy half term everyone! 

It was great to see so many of you at parent consultations this week.

The children have settled extremely well into the routine and expectations of Year 2, I am sure like me you are very proud of their progress. 

Please see below an insight of the topics we will be covering next term.

English – the children will create a recount, this will be on the book ‘Dogger’. The children will describe the character’s feelings; create a wanted poster along with creating a recount using adverbs of time and conjunctions to extend their sentence writing. The following topic, we will be discussing the difference between instruction and explanation. The children will write their own explanations.

Maths – the units are addition and subtraction along with 2D and 3D shapes.

Science - We will continue our topic on the uses of everyday materials and we will start with exploring what materials are best suited for a waterproof coat, along with discussing natural and manmade materials and researching famous inventors.

Geography - Our topic is 'Would you like to live in a hot or cold place? Our first lesson will be learning, Where are the continents?

PSHE - The topic is 'Celebrating differences'.

RE - We will be learning about Diwali, Hanukkah and Christmas.

D&T - The topic is on creating 'Hand Puppets', the children will create a Christmas stocking.

Happy Friday!

We had a wonderful time at the British Museum in Hitchin. The children were extremely well behaved and enjoyed the role-play acting as Victorian children.

Next week

English – to write a different version of Handa’s Surprise, including expanded nouns and conjunctions.

Maths – solving calculations using different methods on add and subtract across 10.

History – to write a recount on our class trip using time words along with learning interesting facts on Mary Seacole.

Reminder re - Home Learning is due in by 19th Octoberto write about your favourite reading book. 

Please include the following: the title and the author of your book. What is the book about? What is your favourite part of the story and why? Did you enjoy the ending? If not what ending would you write instead and draw a picture.

Good afternoon,

I am sure you will agree what a lovely start to the day it was today and great to see so many of you at the Harvest Coffee morning. The children sang their songs beautifully and we have raised lots of money for the Water Aid. Thank you!

Next week

English – the children will write a recount in first person based on Rapunzel on how they felt when then first step into the forest. We will also start our next book on ‘Handa’s Surprise’. The children will write descriptive sentences and including connectives.

Maths – the children will solve calculations using addition and subtraction.

RE – we will discuss places of Worship and the children will design a special place.

PSHE – we will discuss rules and responsibilities.

History – the children will write up their notes from last week’s lesson on the history of our school.

Thursday we are on our class trip to Hitchin British schools museum, which the children are very excited about. Please could your child bring in a pack lunch (please remember we are a nut free school and no fizzy drinks or glass bottles, thank you).
