Friday 18 January 2019

Good afternoon all, it has been a busy, fun week.

In English the children role played the story of ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff‘ and practised the  recurring language, we also discussed the punctuation in the story. They created a detailed storyboard and sequenced the story.

Next week, the children will write their own version of ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. They will change the characters and repeated phrases and they will include commas and exclamation marks.

In maths, the children learnt pictograms, tally charts, tables and totalling and comparing amounts in block graphs. The children discussed the graphs in detail and asked and answered questions to consolidate their learning.

Next week, the children will be applying their increasing knowledge of mental and written methods by using place value and number facts to solve problems with addition and subtraction.

In history we started our new topic on ‘The Great Fire of London’ and the children are really enjoying learning about London and when are where is started.

Next week, the children will be learning about Samuel Pepys and we will also look at panoramas drawn by Wenceslaus Hollar.

In art, the children drew detailed houses in relation to our history topic for our class display
.
In science, the children described and drew a picture of how an animal changes as it grows.
Next week, they will name and describe how humans change as they grow.

Spellings for next Friday are:
Group 1: dad, big, when it’s.
Group 2: can’t, didn’t, hasn’t, it’s, couldn’t, I’ll, they’re.
Have a wonderful weekend.
